stream of consciousness

So, I need to get a little more acquainted with the blog thing. It is still so new to me, & I am not sure exactly what the “rules” are, & so forth. But, here goes…. more stream of consciousness stuff:

Lately, I can’t seem to get enough studio time. Never mind that I am in the studio by 7 a.m., & some days I work til midnight or even 1…. I look at the clock & invariably think “I just need a few more hours….” It’s incredible really.

My next show will be the New Orleans Arts Market at Palmer Park, Saturday, Aug 30th 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check it out here:

That’s followed closely by the Baton Rouge Arts Market, on Saturday, September 6th 8 a.m. til noon:

My next BIG show will be Kentuck, in Northport, AL. I am told that it’s a really prestigious show, & I am so excited to have been juried in! But, that’s not until October 18th & 19th (my birthday!). Meanwhile, I am cranking out new art like there’s no tomorrow. Summer sales have been very good, but honestly, the little critters are eating us out of house & home! (I’m just glad we don’t REALLY have to feed them!) But it feels great to have this “surplus” of work, because I know the holidays will be upon us before we know it. I have so many new pieces, as in, one-of-a-kind, that are not even on my site yet….fun stuff, too. Oh, & new colors. (The “critters” are coming)

I listen to books on c.d. in my studio while I work. It’s great because as much as I adore reading, I usually only have time for it right before I fall asleep, & since I am working such long hours, well, I’m way too sleepy to read, & besides, I would not want to keep my husband, Jimmy awake with my lamp. . With books on c.d., I am going through books like wildfire. At the moment I’m listening to “A Fraction of the Whole”. It’s very clever, thought I am only on the second disk, I think it will be a very good book. Yesterday, it was “The 5 People You Meet in Heaven”. Good, entertaining, but not life changing or anything. I really enjoyed Anne Lamott’s “More Thoughts on Faith”. She is a brilliant writer, & there must have been about twenty times when I was in clay up to my elbows, thinking, “oh, I need to write that down!”…. I have already decided I will listen to that one again soon. I liked “Shop Girl”, by Steve Martin, &….I have forgotten the title of his other book…. but it was very good, too.

I also LOVE “This American Life” on NPR. I try to be sure I’m working at 5 p.m. on Sunday evenings when it is aired on our local NPR affiliate, WRKF. …&, of course, “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” … NPR’s answer to television game shows. If you win, you get Carl Castle’s voice for the outgoing message on your answering machine. I would love to have Carl Castle’s voice on my answer machine!

Well…. I think it’s time to get back in that studio!
